Tennis Court Lighting Upgrade – Tennis Club, Southern Melbourne

Client: Tennis Club, Southern Melbourne
Project: Outdoor Court Lighting Upgrade 7 Courts
Location: Southern Melbourne, VIC
Date: May, 2025
Objective: Replace ageing metal halide floodlights with high-efficiency High Lumens 400W LED Tennis Court Lights to meet modern illumination standards and improve player visibility.

Background

The Tennis Club operates seven hard-surface courts used daily by members, coaches and local competitions.
The existing 1,000W metal halide fittings had been in service for over a decade. They suffered from long warm-up times, uneven lighting, frequent globe replacements, and high running costs.

The club wanted a lighting solution that would:

  • Meet Tennis Australia and AS 2560.2.1 lighting guidelines
  • Provide even illumination across the entire playing surface
  • Reduce energy consumption and maintenance overheads
  • Deliver instant, flicker-free performance suitable for night matches and tournaments.

Solution

After a site assessment and photometric modelling, LED EXPO Australia recommended the installation of 4 × 400 W High-Lumens LED Tennis Court Lights per court, a total of 28 lights across all seven courts.

Each fitting delivers up to 160 lumens per watt, producing over 64,000 lumens with a precision asymmetric beam for perfect coverage without glare or overspill.

System Features:

  • IP66 weatherproof aluminium housing
  • Optimised asymmetrical beam angles for tennis court layouts
  • Instant on performance (no warm up delay)
  • 5 year warranty and 100,000 hour lifespan

Installation was completed over one week with minimal disruption to club activities. All poles and wiring were reused where possible to maximise cost efficiency.
