Client: Private residential tennis court, Brisbane QLD
Project: Lighting system upgrade one full sized tennis court
Date: October, 2025
Objective: Replace existing metal-halide floodlights with high-efficiency 250W LED Tennis Court Lights to deliver superior illumination, enhanced playing experience, reduced maintenance and lower energy consumption.
Background
The client owns a full sized hard surface tennis court in Brisbane, used for both recreational play and private coaching sessions in the evening. The existing lighting comprised older high-wattage metal-halide floodlights that:
- Required long warm-up times and frequent lamp replacements
- Produced uneven lighting with dark spots and glare impacting ball visibility
- Had high running costs and maintenance burdens
The client sought a solution that would:
- Provide uniform, competition-level illumination for the playing surface
- Improve ball visibility and reduce shadows/glare for both players and coaches
- Cut energy consumption and ongoing maintenance
- Offer a modern, instant-on lighting system suitable for night play
Solution
After a detailed site inspection and photometric modelling, LED EXPO Australia recommended the installation of six × 250 W High-Lumens LED Tennis Court Lights (one fixture every ~6 m around the court). Each fixture delivers high luminous output with asymmetric optics, engineered for tennis layouts to avoid overspill and glare.
Key product features:
- Instant-on, flicker-free LED driver system
- High lumen efficiency (approx. 160 lm/W or better) for maximised brightness/rate
- Asymmetric beam angle to provide even coverage and minimise spill light
- Rugged aluminium housing rated for outdoor conditions, long lifespan
- 5-year warranty, designed for 100,000 + hours life
Installation was completed in a single weekend, with minimal disruption to the court usage schedule. The existing poles and cabling were reused where practical, reducing installation time and cost.

Results
Lighting Performance:
The upgraded lighting system achieved an average horizontal illuminance in the range of 300-400 lux across the court, with excellent uniformity and no significant dark zones. Player feedback immediately noted clearer ball visibility and more comfortable evening playing.
Energy & Cost Efficiency:
Replacing older metal-halide lamps (typically 1,000W+ per fitting) with 250W LED units resulted in an estimated ~70% reduction in energy draw for the court lighting. Maintenance overheads are also significantly reduced with no lamp changes required for years.
Improved Player Experience:
Enhanced colour rendering and instant full brightness meant coaching sessions and recreational matches could commence immediately without warm-up delays. Glare and light overspill were minimised, creating a more premium playing environment.
